Why should we drink ionized alkaline water?

Life-giving qualities

Water is the source of life. At birth, our bodies contain more than 90% of water. Our cells actually bathe in water, otherwise known as interstitial fluid – their natural reservoir of nutrients and oxygen, as well as a medium for removal of metabolic waste. However, the amount of water tends to dwindle with the passage of time. For instance, the average adult body already contains 60-70% of water, and in the eight-decade of life – even less.  Responding to shrinking water resources, our bodies tend to „dry out“. This process is accompanied by weakening functional capacities and gradual physical deterioration, known as ageing, as a result. Declining metabolism, poor circulation, and inadequate nutrient supply… are just a few negative outcomes resulting from an insufficient intake of water.  So, the general recommendation is to drink as much fresh water as you can, without waiting for signs of thirst to appear.  In fact, the moment you feel thirst, the organism already wants half a litre of water. The daily norm for an adult person is about 2 – 2.5 litres. However, the quality and characteristics of water are at the core of its beneficial effect.  The source of powerful antioxidants  Alkaline water is distinguished by a negative oxidation-reduction potential (ORP=-100…-200mV), indicating powerful antioxidant properties. This means that it has plenty of free electrons to give away to free radicals.  Oxidation-reduction reactions or the exchange of electrons between atoms or groups of atoms are the basis of all-natural chemical processes. Atoms lacking electrons try to steal them from other atoms. These are called free radicals – unstable molecules with an unpaired electron. They form as a result of oxidation reactions in the human body (oxidation is the gain of oxygen). Free radicals have a high positive oxidation potential. Seeking out electrons, they continuously attack healthy cells, thus disturbing their normal activity and even destroying the cellular structure. This process may trigger uncontrollable chemical reactions, leading to a number of pathological conditions in the human body.  On the other hand, there are atoms, called antioxidants, which have a surplus of electrons ready to donate. By giving them away to free radicals, antioxidants promote the formation of stable oxygen molecules and thus protect the organism against oxidative stress. Antioxidants are characterised by a negative oxidation-reduction potential. A negative value means that oxygen, present in hydroxyl ion, has an extra electron. The more negative the ORP value, the higher the anti-oxidative effect.  Alkaline water, as the very name indicates, contains only negative hydrogen ions and alkaline metal ions (calcium, magnesium, sodium, and potassium). Note that ionized substances are best absorbed by the body. That‘s why the alkalizing effect of these easily absorbable alkaline metal ions is very high indeed. With a daily intake of alkaline water, the body receives an alkaline ion „cocktail”, a prerequisite to maintaining a healthy inner environment of the body. As a result, the acidification of the body goes down and the immunity to diseases goes up. Hydration down to the cellular level  Water molecules come in clusters rather than stay single. However, tap water molecules form twice as big clusters (10-13 molecules) as those of ionized water (5-6 molecules).  Molekule  Due to smaller molecular formations, ionized water immediately passes through cell membranes and integrates into metabolism. The body doesn‘t have to waste its energy anymore to decompose the complex molecular structure. Ionized alkaline water penetrates tissues easier than the regular one, providing abundant hydration to the cells and eliminating toxins accumulated in the intestine, down to its deepest recesses. Alkalized water neutralizes and liquefies acidic waste accumulated in the body, which is then easily eliminated through the kidneys.

Acidification of the Body

In this day and age young people are increasingly affected by age-associated diseases. Environmental pollution, bad eating habits, stress, fatigue, smoking, drinking, and a sedentary lifestyle are frequently cited as the negative factors that throw the body off balance and lead to metabolic disorders and the general acidification of the body.  The accumulation of acidic waste in the body’s internal environment – in the blood, interstitial fluid, and lymph – results in acidosis or the disruption of pH balance. Acidosis is said to occur when blood pH levels fall below the normal range of 7.35-7.45, which indicates slight alkalinity. Only this kind of blood can supply the body with essential nutrients and remove acidic waste.  Accumulation of acidic waste  Acidic waste is a natural by-product of tell metabolism. There are as many as 60 trillion cells in the human body, with an average life cycle of 4 weeks. At the end of the cycle, every cell splits into two genetically equivalent units. However, only half of the newly formed cells are destined for further development. The rest of the weak, affected and polluted cells will simply degenerate. Every other million cells will perish and become acidic waste. Negative factors related to the environment and lifestyle make the situation worse, as they not only promote the accumulation of acidic waste but also prevent its elimination. However, the natural process of aging also takes its toll – the internal environment of the body tends to acidify with the passing years. It is often the case that beyond the age of 45 the body loses its ability to get rid of accumulated acidic waste and begins storing it in various parts of the body.  Importance of nutrition  Let’s first consider nutrition – the number one cause of acidification. All foodstuffs provide the essential nutrients and energy necessary for the development and growth of the human body. The difference between good and bad food is determined by the relative amount of hazardous waste produced as a result of its consumption. High-quality foodstuffs produce less acidic waste and more acid-neutralizing alkaline by-products. Bear in mind that alkaline substances neutralize acidic waste and cleanse the body, whereas acidic substances lead to acidification and contamination.  One of the main pillars of good health is acid-alkaline balance. Unfortunately, the foods available today are rich in acidifying substances. This includes goods such as meat and meat products, eggs, wheat flour products, coffee, alcohol, pasteurized juices, fish and seafood, bread, sweets, soft drinks, etc.  The list of alkaline products is much shorter: fresh fruit and vegetables, lettuce, potatoes, natural mineral water, and a few others. It is clear that maintaining an acid-alkaline balance by means of nutrition only can be quite a challenge.  Negative consequences of stress  Eating habits are not the only cause of acidification. Lifestyle plays a significant role here too. We allow ourselves to be busy at all times, give in to stress easily, frequently stray from our daily routine and otherwise strain our system. Nervous stress plays a critical role here. In fact, it is much more dangerous than physical stress, the negative effects of which you can alleviate with a bit of rest. Stress tends to elicit biochemical changes in the body which lead to an increased heart rate, higher blood pressure, and the redistribution of blood supply in various organs.  Both physical and nervous stress add to the acidity of the body’s internal environment. A fine example of this is the peptic ulcer. In stressful situations, you tend to consume and burn more nutrients. As a result, more waste is produced than the body is capable of eliminating. Long-term exposure to stress leads to various diseases and accelerates aging.  Acidification and disease  Healthy cells need an alkaline environment. Evidence shows that excess acidity is the root cause of all diseases. Every disease, from the common cold to cancer, manifests itself when the body becomes incapable of coping with the accumulation of acidic waste and resisting the damaging effect of free radicals. Ionized Acidic Water

Ionized acidic water  Ionised acidic water is obtained through the process of electrolysis in a container separated from the alkaline water receptacle. Ionized acidic water has a weak positive electric charge. It can be distinguished by its sour taste and acidic odor with a slight whiff of chlorine.  The unique characteristics of acidic water (otherwise called dead water) are determined by the presence of negative chlorine, sulfur, phosphorus, and hydrogen H+ ions in its composition. A greater concentration of hydrogen ions means stronger acidic qualities and lower pH values. Ph is a negative hydrogen ion concentration logarithm and is also known as the hydrogen index. As the concentration of hydrogen H+ ions increases in the fluid, its pH value drops. This means that acidity increases and alkalinity decreases.  The pH value of acidic water ranges from 6.0 to 2.4 (the lower the value, the more acidic the water). Regular consumption of acidic water acidifies the body and boosts oxidation levels, which is why it should only be used externally. However, in certain cases of infectious disease, acidic water can be consumed in small quantities and for a short period of time. Consult with your physician before you begin.  The ORP values of acidic water are positive. This means that the fluid has oxidative qualities due to its electron insufficiency. High positive oxidation potential characterizes the ability of the strong oxidizers in acidic water to snatch away electrons from the foreign bodies that find their way into the human body. As they take the missing electrons away from microbes and bacteria, the acidic agents destroy them. As a result, the acidic water acquires bactericidal, fungicidal, antiseptic, anti-allergenic, and anti-inflammatory characteristics.  It is interesting to note that the operational mechanism of acidic water is analogous to that of the body’s immune system. In this system, macrophages or white blood cells, or “big eaters” in Greek, swallow and destroy cellular debris, foreign bodies, and microbes in the human body.  Research has shown that acidic water destroys bacteria of the staphylococcus, streptococcus, E.coli, shigella, and salmonella genera. A number of clinical studies have confirmed the beneficial effect of acidic water in cases of chronic tonsillitis, salmonella poisoning, dysentery, staphylococcal skin infections, eczema, dermatitis, and psoriasis, trophic ulcers, etc. Another amazing feature of acidic water has also been discovered: acidic water destroys only pathogenic bacteria.

Ionization Process

Water ionization Ionised water is obtained by means of an electric current being passed through water, in a process known as electrolysis. As a result, the water molecule is split into positively charged hydrogen (H+) and negatively charged hydroxyl (OH–) ions. The former is included in the composition of acids, and the latter – in that of alkalis.  The decomposition of dissolved mineral salts also takes place in the process of electrolysis. Salt is a chemical element composed of positively charged metal ions and negatively charged non-metal ions (acidic residues). Alkaline metal ions – calcium, magnesium, sodium, and potassium – are positively charged, and non-metal ions – chlorine, sulfur, phosphorus, and others – are negatively charged.  How does an alkaline water ionizer work?  Jonizacijos process  The ionization process itself takes place in a special device called a water ionizer. Two electrodes – a positive cathode and a negative anode – are placed in the electrolysis chamber. Ions are attracted to their oppositely charged electrodes: hydrogen and non-metals to the cathode, hydroxyl and alkaline metals to the anode.  Reduction takes place at the positive cathode: positive hydrogen H+ ions add electrons and release hydrogen H2. Negatively charged hydroxyl OH– ions also accumulate around the cathode. The quantity of hydroxyl ions accounts for the alkalinity of water: the greater the quantity, the higher the alkalinity and, accordingly, the pH value. This is ionized alkaline water, also known as ‘live water’. On the other hand, the greater the number of hydrogen ions in the water, the stronger are its acidic qualities and, accordingly, the lower its pH value. This is ionized acidic water, also known as ‘dead water’.  Both alkaline and acidic water acquire and maintain completely different properties over the course of time.  The electrolysis chamber of the water alkalizer, filled with tap water, is divided into two sections by special membrane partitions inserted into one another. Tiny partition pores allow dissolved salt ions to pass through but prevent the passage of water molecules, which are much bigger. Thus these pores prevent the water in the different sections from mixing and enable it to preserve its newly acquired and different properties. However, if both the alkaline and acidic water is poured into the same container, the tap water will assume its initial characteristics.

The importance of ionized alkaline water for family health is not to be underestimated. This is especially true of expectant families or those with young kids. However, young married couples are frequently bound by limited financial resources. If so, maybe you just need to cut down your portion sizes to get back to the figure you were once proud of.  However, it’s likely that your eating habits are far from excellent. It’s quite a challenge to stick to a healthy diet in the rush and stress of daily life. It’s no wonder that foods and beverages that acidify the body’s inner environment are typically what can be found in our fridges. Many meat types of meat, grains, sugars as well as popular drinks like coffee, tea, soft drinks, and alcohol are among those that raise acidity levels – one of the principal causes of weight gain. Ionized alkaline water can be very helpful in this regard, as it helps neutralize the acid.  Acidity and weight gain  One of the reasons behind weight gain is the fact that our bodies are more acidic than they should be. The body removes some toxic acids through urination, defecation, and perspiration. However, in the case of over-acidity, it is incapable of detoxifying fully – some acids stay in the system. What is true of humans and animals, must also apply to plants. Indeed, not only is ionized water suitable for drinking, it is also great for watering our green friends. Among its advantages are superb cleanliness and purity. Ionised alkaline and acidic water is the purest water there is: it is free of all sorts of pollution, bacteria and chlorine, which could harm the plants. In this regard it is a better choice than tap or any other type of unfiltered water.  Have you ever noticed that vegetation tends to flourish after the rain? This is because rain water is acidic, and plants happen to like it. Experts admit that ionized acidic water is the best kind of water you can give them. If your plants have lost their vitality and are starting to deteriorate, you can bring them back to life by watering them with slightly acidic water. You’ll be surprised to see your flowers recover.  As a preventive measure, we advise watering healthy plants with slightly alkaline water (pH=7.5-8.5), but no more frequently than once a week. Use regular water in the interim.  Extermination of blight and other minor infestations  Spray infestations with strong acidic water (pH=2.5). The pathogens or parasites will perish or leave. Their eggs will perish too.  Crop disinfection  Strong acidic water (pH=2.5-3.0) is a natural disinfectant. It is commonly used in agriculture because it can kill bugs, bacteria, fungi, viruses and mould. Some farmers use it as safe alternative to toxic chemicals for spraying crops.

Why should it be otherwise with our beloved pets – our dogs and cats? Both human beings and canine as well as feline pets are mammals and essentially have the same bodily structure. The truth is that we need plenty of it!  Most veterinarians agree that pets benefit from higher quality drinking water as much as we do. Canine and feline pets do have metabolic systems similar to ours. Their cells produce acidic waste as a result of their vital activity. Besides, their diet is far from perfect: most foods we buy from pet stores don’t meet the nutritional standards we ourselves would prefer. Although supposedly balanced to fulfill the daily nutritional needs of cats and dogs, they contain unnecessary and even harmful additives, not to speak of the fact that they lose the essential quality of freshness (“aliveness”), which is true of canned (processed) foods in general.  This contributes to the acidification of the body’s internal environment and leads to the same health challenges we humans face. Alkaline ionized water helps flush out the acidic waste accumulated in your pet’s system. Note that cats and dogs are natural carnivores and have highly acidic stomachs required for the digestion of meat. Extra alkaline minerals, present in ionized water, such as calcium, magnesium, potassium, and sodium, help neutralize gastric acid and balance their metabolic system.  A source of vitality and health  ionized water pets The inclusion of healthy water in your pet’s diet on a regular basis will enhance their appearance and health. Your little animal friend will become more cheerful and energetic. You’ll also notice an obvious change in how they look: their eyes will begin to sparkle, and their coat will become thick, soft, and lustrous. This positive effect is likely to take place in two to three months and can be maintained as long as you keep giving them this type of water.  Ionized alkaline water will also benefit many of the disorders that pets face: skin and coat problems, allergies, arthritis, joint pain, etc.  If your cat or dog suffers from alopecia (hair loss) and dry or itchy skin, try putting them on an alkaline diet. Don’t give them high alkaline water right from the beginning. Start with medium alkalinity (8.5-9.0 pH) and continue for about a week. If everything goes well, you can increase the alkalinity to 9.5 pH and treat them with the alkalized water until their condition improves.  It is no secret that elderly animals, like people, frequently suffer from joint conditions associated with arthritis. Alkaline water lubricates joints and helps maintain the health of cartilage, which functions as a shock absorber in the joints, thus preventing the loss of mobility.  Nowadays, pet allergies are increasingly more frequent, as they are among people. The major factor behind this trend is pet food that contains large amounts of unnecessary ingredients, such as corn and corn products. So-called food allergies may cause a number of skin and fur conditions, sugar highs, etc. There is evidence that ionized alkaline water may help alleviate these allergies.  Tips for using alkalized water  Never give your pet ionized alkaline water with their meals. The higher pH level in the water will neutralize the stomach acids required for food digestion. Better wait for an hour or so. If your pet takes any type of medication, don’t give them ionized water within about an hour of taking the medicine.
