The Body is Dependent on Adequate Water and Ionic Minerals for All Its Functions “Our bodies consist of about 75% water, in a purely healthy state. The Kidneys Health and Hydra Anti-oxidant Alkaline Water

All that wonderful food we eat, all those nutritious greens, all that organic, tasty food that we so enjoy must metabolize. The body uses it to fire the cells. In return the cells give off carbon dioxide, water, energy and heat. When proteins are broken down and used by the cells, toxic, acidic, nitrogenous wastes like ammonia and urea are formed and excreted by the cells into the spaces between the cells. Somehow the body has to get rid of these acids because they are extremely irritating to the body and cause inflammation. It is imperative because of all of the other things that the kidneys do that are vital to life. This whole metabolic and inflammation cycle is totally dependent on water. The kidneys are responsible for filtering wastes from the blood and moving them on to the bladder to go down the chute. Along with the large intestine, the kidneys control the balance of fluids in the body. The kidneys also control the blood pressure, the blood/bone mineral balance and the body’s acid-alkaline balance (pH). The kidneys also participate in the activation of Vitamin D in the body. Blood viscosity and control of red blood cell production are also part of the kidney function. Part of this process is the kidneys control over the growth and development of bones and the nourishment of the marrow, which is the body’s source for red and white blood cells. When the water volume in the body is too low, the blood pressure drops. When this happens, the kidneys secrete a hormone called renin. Renin stimulates the production of another hormone called angiotensin. Angiotensin causes blood vessels to constrict causing in a rise in blood pressure. Angiotensin also stimulates the secretion of another hormone called aldosterone from the adrenal cortex. The adrenal glands sit on top of the kidneys. When aldosterone is secreted it causes the kidneys to retain water and sodium. This increases the volume of water in the body, which also increases blood pressure. This is called the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone cascade. If the water levels in the body are chronically low due to low water intake, the rennin-angiotensin- aldosterone system can become too active and keep blood pressure too high. Because of the amount of pure water that the body requires to meet its daily needs, it is imperative to drink enough. The osmotic pressure that acts as a pump to pump nourishment into the cells and pump acidic wastes out of the cells, is dependent on adequate water supplies. This osmotic pressure also pumps wastes into the blood stream to be carried to the kidneys. When there is inadequate water, it become harder to get nourishment into the cells. Also the acidic wastes accumulate in the tissues and contribute to an acidic body condition called acidosis. Adequate, pure water also keeps the blood at the right thickness or viscosity so that blood pressure can normalize and the kidney/adrenal function is not overworked. If it gets near the danger zone, the kidneys send a hormonal signal to command the bones, organs and/or teeth to release minerals to buffer the acidity. What’s The Acidity In The Body?

It is estimated that over 80% of all deaths in North America are premature. That is to say that their deaths could have been prevented. The leading causes of death are heart disease, diabetes and obesity. Because these health conditions are the result of a chronically acid body, science now believes that these conditions are totally preventable. Other health conditions like allergies, depression, poor digestion, headaches, irritable bowel syndrome, fatigue, anxiety, asthma, osteoporosis, cancer, infections and many other conditions, 68 or more, all have direct links to our nutritional intake and the amount of acidic forming foods we consume. We are a fast-paced society and to live in certain cities and parts of the world you need lots of energy just to keep up with the pace of life. But no matter which city you live in you face much more stress than someone living in a rural setting. Stress is a very strong precursor to disease. You can buy pH strips at your local health food store and test your saliva every morning. The pH of your saliva is controlled by your diet, the amount of acidic bottled water and tap water you drink, the number of other acidic beverages like coffee, tea and sodas you drink, in addition to acid forming snacks you consume daily. Recent research has linked low salivary pH to poor nutrition, high acidic water consumption and a leading indicator in several major diseases. Salivary pH is usually measured from 5.0 to 9.0, the lower the number the more acidic your body is and the more likely you are to have or develop health problems. Your ideal saliva reading should be between 7.0 and 7.4. The test strips come in a roll in a plastic container with a color indicator chart on the side. Using Hydra Alkaline Water to Treat Urinary Problems

In most people, urine is very acidic. It is the body’s way of getting rid of excess acids in the body from the metabolism of food and other lifestyle choices. When the little engines in the cells called mitochondria fire to provide us with energy, they give off little puffs of metabolic exhaust, which is very acid. The urine is the body’s way of getting rid of it. Unfortunately, if the body is dehydrated, it becomes harder and harder for these acids to be eliminated. The normal protective coating inside the bladder becomes too thin from acidic wear and urine seeps through what is left of this coating to activate an irritation/inflammation response. Treatment For Asthma With Alkaline Water

Every time you breathe out, you lose water. It’s about a quart of water every day, breathed out of your body. In cold climates, you can see it in the winter time, when you breathe, as a mist coming out of your nose and mouth. That is the invisible water vapor that is a by-product of your breathing. Like A Race Horse, Your Blood pH is Critical To Health

According to sports nutrition researchers, muscles are designed to work well only in a narrow range of almost zero acidity. Arterial blood works best with no acid at all. So the pH of an animals (especially a race horse) blood is critical! The body has a secret balance that is not only designed to keep your horse healthy, but to make movement more comfortable and efficient. That balance is the acid/alkaline balance. Acidity and alkalinity is measured by a unit called pH. The most important factor, other than injury that causes a horse to “train off” faster than anything else is a drop in its blood pH. In the early stages of pH disturbance, it can be hard to detect why a horse would start to lag. Sometimes a depletion of its natural alkaline reserves, injudicious training techniques; and other closely associated factors such as high grain diets, the prevailing climate and workload can also contribute to the acidic condition. For example, at rest, in a healthy horse, muscle pH should be about 6.9. The normal pH of a horse’s blood is between 7.42 and 7.45, so you can see just how narrow the range is. Any reading below 7.40 is an indication of “acidosis”. Research shows that as your horse begins to exercise, the muscles draw fuel to provide energy to move or stretch. The more time the muscles are out of “rest” the more acid they produce as they burn the fuel. So the harder a muscle has to work in a race, the quicker it will “go acid.” When the muscle pH drops below 6.5, the muscles cannot fuel themselves properly, nor can they rid themselves of the rapid acidic buildup because the hydration cycle is interrupted. The ability of muscle to generate power and movement is then restricted. The blood flow and breathing are also dramatically affected. To promote efficiency of movement in racing, in any movement or stretching exercise, there must be an intervention to alkalize and flush the system before, during and after exercise. The most efficient is alkaline, ionized water. Its alkalizing effect on the body reduces muscle fatigue, stiffness and pain. A drop in the blood pH and the subsequent rise in acidity is called acidosis but it is really a depletion of the animals alkaline reserves. According to some of the latest research, unrefined sea salt is actually good for your brain and especially so if you spend a lot of time in a hot environment. Your brain appears to be encased in a salty environment and floats in salty cerebral spinal fluid. Salt is constantly being pumped into this fluid. It must be replenished in the diet to maintain the optimal brain environment. The brain is 85 percent water and uses salt for taking acids out of the brain cells. The acidity is a by-product of the energy consumed by the nine trillion brain and nerve cells that constantly chatter to one another. The Role Of Inflammation and Cancer

It has been postulated for more than a century that inflammation contributes to cancer. The scientists Julius Vogel (1814-1880) and Rudolph Virchow (1821-1902) put forth the theory that cancer was caused by irritation that eventually caused inflammation and thus excessive cellular growth. More recently, British Researchers have concluded that the long term over-activation of the immune system (such as through infection and inflammation) may be an important cause of cancer. Their research shows an elevation of C-Reactive Protein in most cancers, namely breast, lung, colorectal, prostate and pancreatic cancer. 1 Other researchers have also identified inflammation as a significant factor in the development of what they call “solid tumor” malignancies. There are chronic inflammatory conditions like “silent inflammation” ,that medicine cannot establish a significant cause, that provide a supporting environment for the growth of malignancies. Some of the new research is pointing this unknown cause to the chronic acidity in the body environment. More research concludes that it all starts with our poor North American diet and acidic tap water intake and more acidic bottled water intake. Chronic dehydration can be caused by the acidic state or acidic-forming state of what is taken in to the body. For example, someone may drink two to three litres of acid-forming bottled water per day and still be dehydrated by the acidic body condition. Tumors, when they are developing are just proliferating cells. The theory is that it looks much like a wound to the host, so inflammatory cells come in and do their job. They urge the growth onwards. The inflammation thrives in an acidic environment, thus encouraging growth of cancerous cells. The same inflammatory connection can be drawn to other “itis” conditions related to smoking and lung cancer, spicy foods and stomach cancer and so on. There are many irritants in the body that can cause inflammation to the point of being chronic. Infections, oxidative stress, allergies, smoking, poor food choices, excessive alcohol use, pesticide and herbicide exposure from occupations and many others can contribute significant enough chronic irritation to cause cellular overgrowth. Since it is know that other foreign invaders, free radicals, advanced glycation end-products (excess sugars) and food allergies suppress the immune system and cause inflammation, it would be wise for cancer patients and those at risk for developing cancer to minimize all forms of inflammatory inducing antigens by eating only organic whole alkaline-forming foods and drink alkaline, ionized water. Irritation and inflammation can only exist in an acidic body condition where the body is breaking down faster than it can repair itself. Chlorine One of The Risk Factors of Breast Cancer

The most alarming statistics around breast cancer are coming out. “Every 13 minutes another woman dies from the environmental, dietary and metabolic acids that cause breast cancer, an acidic condition of the breast tissue that has more than tripled in incidence over the past 50 years,” states Dr. Robert O. Young, Director of the pH Miracle Living Center, in San Diego County, California. Chlorine is a recognized pesticide. It has been added to our drinking water supplies, as a disinfectant, since the late 1800’s. When chlorine combines with organic compounds in the water (sediment) or our bodies, organochlorines are formed. According to Wikipedia, organochlorines include chloroform, dichloromethane, dichloroethene, and trichlorotheane. Other organochlorines include haloacetic acids and trihalmethanes. Scientific studies have linked the accumulation of chlorine compounds in breast tissue to cancer. Organochlorines react with metabolic acids in human tissue and are being recognized more and more as a causative agent to cancer. In Hartford, Connecticut, as study there four “women with breast cancer have 50 to 50 percent higher levels of organochlorines (chlorination by-products) in their breast tissue than women without breast cancer.” It’s no wonder. Chloroform, dichloromethane, dichloroethene and trichloroethane are useful as solvents in dry cleaning and degreasing. Many pesticides used in the agriculture sector are also organochlorides. These include DDT, Dicofol, Heptachlor, Endosulfan, Chlordane, Mirex and Pentachlorophenol. These organochloramines mimic these poisons in your body. Organochloramines can pose serious health threats to humans and can be found in many unexpected places. Up to 2/3 of our harmful exposure to chlorine happens while showering, using hot tubs and swimming pools. The skin is the largest organ of the body and has even been dubbed the third kidney. Every time we shower or bathe, chlorine is absorbed through the pores of our skin and breathed in through our lungs. The steam that is inhaled while showering or swimming can contain up to 50 times more chlorine that by drinking tap water. The chlorine gas, given off by hot water in the shower or hot tub is extremely toxic and it is breathed in, where it goes directly into the blood stream. From there, who knows where it will end up and accumulate. More and more evidence is suggesting that it is ending up in breast tissue. An article published by Greenpeace in 1993 outlines the health risks associated with chlorine.  The article is called, “Chlorine, Human Health, and the Environment: The Breast Cancer Warning.” You can look it up on the internet quite easily. With such compelling evidence, it is important that every woman examine the facts and make intelligent choices for her health. There are hidden substances all around you, in the air, in your food and water. Not to get paranoid about it is a good call. Effects Of Toxins Aging The Body

In the Globe and Mail newspaper on Wednesday November 9, 2005, Andre Picard reported on a study on human contaminants, using 11 volunteers, including well know wildlife artist, Robert Bateman. The resulting report entitled “Toxic Nation: A Report on Pollution in Canadians,” shows how despite clean living, we are all a repository for all kinds of toxins and pollutants, including, heavy metals; PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls used in electrical transformers and now banned); PBDEs (polybrominated diphenyl ethers used as fire retardants); PFOs (perfluorinated chemicals used in stain repellants, non-stick cookware and food packaging), pesticides and insecticides. Robert Bateman is a very environmentally conscious individual who eats organic food and lives in a rural community. If he has 48 different toxic substances in his body, can you imagine what a city dweller could have in theirs. The most alarming thing about having these toxins inside us is, not only are we poisoned and our future health will reflect that, but those toxins turbo-age our bodies. If you understand the dynamics of how the body stores toxins, you also understand that there are ways to detox and get rid of them. Some of the ways are very time consuming and expensive, like chelation. Far infrared saunas are good for certain types of contaminating toxins. I Drink Lots, Why Am I Dehydrated?

Go to the fridge of any supermarket and you will find dozens and dozens of different brands of water and other beverages. There are even a dozen or so energy drinks which will shock your adrenals and give you a temporary boost of cortisol to rev you up. If all else fails get a shot of caffeine with a bunch of sugar added, can it and you’re good to go. To understand why you are dehydrated, we need to look at the basics. It all comes down to acid/alkaline balance and of course why you are attracted to drinks in bottles in the first place. It is not attractive or enticing to drink something out of a tap that smells like a swimming pool. Not to mention the carcinogenic by-products that are floating in it. Besides, you can’t take the tap with you when you leave home. Bottles are portable and convenient. But, their contents are mostly acidic, with a very few exceptions. Over time, just eating food makes your body acidic, especially the typical North American diet. When your body becomes acidic, the water in and around your cells becomes acidic as well. The osmotic pump that pumps fuel into the cells and the waste out of the cells, doesn’t work so well. When you drink acidic tap water and bottled beverages, the water goes in and within a very short time, needs to come out. So it goes in the mouth and then almost right to the bladder because everything else is stagnant. Almost anything you buy in a bottle is acidic. There are a couple of spring waters that come closer to 6.0 to 7.0 pH. They all stimulate free-radical production in the body because of the way they are processed. Their capacity to do this can be measured by using an Oxygen Reduction Potential (ORP) meter. With the cellular osmotic pump not working too well and adding more acidic beverages to the already acidic body, water can’t get to the cells. Now you are dehydrated. You become chronically so over the years as this process continues. Some of the mechanics of water assimilation also has to do with the particle size of the bunches of water molecules. When water sits in a reservoir or in the pipes, it is constantly making and remaking bonds with other molecules. These bunches of molecules can be quite large. It’s like me saying, “Take this apple and put it into your mouth.” You can’t do it. It’s too big. If you cut the apple up into small pieces, then you can put the pieces of apple into your mouth and chew them. Your cells are exactly the same. Whatever needs to go into the cells, needs to fit through the gates. Water in and water out, is an indication that the water clusters are not fitting into the cell gates. That is why we have something called microclustering. The bunches of water molecules are broken into smaller cluster sizes. Along with large molecule clusters and the intake of acidic substances, the body has to wrestle with its own acidic waste. How do you break the cycle? You alkalize. The easiest way is to look after both problems at once. Take care of the acidity and the hydration together with  alkaline, ionized water. When you drink the hydrogen  water, it starts to loosen the acidic wastes and toxins around the cells so that the osmotic pump starts working again and the cells are more efficiently fed and hydrated. Not only that, the thirst mechanism turns back on so that you realize just how dehydrated you have been. Your body will crave the  alkaline, ionized water. At first there will be more water going in than is coming out as your cells soak up the water. Then you will start to notice that you now need to get rid of some of the water. By urinating, toxins start leaving the body quite efficiently. As more and more toxins leave the body, fat cells which have stored the toxins all this time, start to shrink. A by-product of alkaline, hydration is fat loss. What could be simpler?

Is The Cause of Asthma Dehydration?

Asthma is a histamine response due to dehydration. In my article Water An Antihistamine, I explain how histamine regulates the body’s water supply. When the body is short of water, histamine will control where the water is directed based on priority. Asthma, it was once thought, was brought on by stress, especially in children. Studies have shown that an estimated 75 percent of the population has some degree of dehydration, significant enough to affect their health. Along with dehydration, the majority of people’s body state is acidic due to our typical North American diet. Children love junk food which is very dehydrating and acidifying to the body which will explain why there are over 12 million child asthma sufferers in North America. There are many millions of adult sufferers as well. Now we know that asthmatics have excessive levels of histamines in their lung tissues. If you breathe through your mouth long enough your mouth gets dry. Water is an integral part of keeping the lungs moist and functioning properly. Every time you breathe out, you lose water. When enough water is lost through the lungs, histamine kicks in to constrict the bronchial passages and increase mucus production to conserve whatever water is there. The mucus covers the tissues to prevent them from drying out. Once a diagnosis of asthma has occurred the person has been chronically dehydrated for some time. The constriction of the bronchial tubes occurs because there is not enough water to keep the cells hydrated and the nerves and blood vessels in the tissues are stressed and inflamed due to the histamine response. If you are properly hydrated, the moisture in the lungs is rapidly replaced so histamine is not required to conserve and delegate water. By drinking enough water, particularly  alkaline, ionized water, the inflammation in the lung tissue is relieved much sooner than drinking bottled water, tap water or reverse osmosis water. Water that is magnetized does not have a high enough pH to effectively address the acidic body terrain that is endemic in the population. Water that is microclustered is the most effective in hydrating the body. People seem to experience that the “water is wetter”, which seems like a silly statement, but the surface tension is significantly different. The alkalinity helps reduce the acid terrain and restore cellular balance. Tests in animals show that an increase in water intake will reduce histamine levels significantly. Studies show that within a 2 to 3 week period enough water is present to reduce mucus buildup in the bronchi and lungs. Once this starts to occur, the spasms reduce and the bronchial passages begin to open. Normal breathing begins again as the body continues to be hydrated. In my clinic, I am seeing the same results with clients, their asthmatic symptoms are no longer there, now that they are hydrated properly. One client decided that his asthma was gone so he stopped drinking  alkaline, ionized water. He started to drink tap water again. Within 3 weeks, he was starting to see symptoms again. Wisely, he started drinking his Hydrogen water again and he is now symptom free.

Watchdog tests for diabetes

People with diabetes should have regular testing to make sure that their diabetes is under control and not causing further health complications. Doctors are saying it is not enough to do daily in-home glucose testing. The goal with all diabetics should be to keep their blood glucose as close to normal as possible. There are a number of routine clinical tests available for diabetics, but a new study shows that not all diabetics are getting these tests done by their health care professionals. There are four tests available for people with diabetes. The first test is a hemoglobin A1c test which measures blood glucose levels over time.  The American Diabetic Association recommends that this test be done twice a year. Some health professionals recommend it be done four times per year.  This test shows the average blood glucose level over several months. The second test is equally important. It is a urine protein test, which is used to measure kidney function and efficiency. It is an important test to monitor the kidneys for damage from the side effects of the diabetic condition. The third test is a dilated eye exam which detects damage to the eyes from diabetes. It is so important to protect the eyesight and prevent problems that can cause blindness or partial blindness. Number four is an examination of the feet and legs to check or irritation, inflammation and sores. People with diabetes have a hard time healing once sores break out in the legs and feet. Sores are sometimes a result of poor circulation, a side effect of diabetes. If you are diabetic and you have not had these tests and examinations done regularly, please check with your health care professional . Your health is important and should be monitored frequently.

Preventing Diabetes in Children With Alklaine Water

Diabetes is endemic in North America and in countries that start eating our Western Diet. What happened? Our ancestors didn’t become diabetic. It was a rare disease back then. It seems to have crept up on us all until we were snared in it and now there seems to be no way out….but maybe not! The evidence suggests that we have slipped away from the diet that was farm based and full of fresh, organic produce and meats. We live off store shelves full of convenience foods and then we rush through the drive-thru to get the kids to soccer practice. Rush here, rush there. We are stressed, acidic, dehydrated and exhausted. yesterday. It started when you graduated from kindergarten, especially after you discovered McWhatever. Gallons of pop and well salted fries later and you started on the road to acidosis and dehydration. Add to the all night parties during and after high school and you had more acidic by-products that your body still can’t get rid of because of your dehydration. Hmmm. Is there a pattern emerging here? Most kids think eggs come from an egg carton and they don’t eat green stuff because it doesn’t taste like McFries or McFlurries. They don’t eat veggies because their parents don’t like them either. We’re teaching our kids to be diabetic because we don’t teach them to drink water and to make healthy food choices. The pancreas is where insulin is made. If you have problems with your insulin production and regulation, you are deemed to be diabetic. Believe it or not the pancreas has two functions. The first is to regulate the balance of the different water systems in the body –blood, lymph, kidneys, digestive system and of course the cells. Our bodies should be about 70 percent water. Each cell has a water volume that is regulated by the amount of potassium available to it. Insulin is very effective in regulating amino acid and potassium levels in the cells, in addition to pushing food/fuel into them through insulin-sensitive “gates” in the outer cell membrane. It is all dependent on adequate water levels in the body. Unfortunately, that doesn’t mean coffee, tea, sports drinks, carbonated anything, or even lattes. It means clean, non-chemical, alkaline, water, preferably ionized, highly oxygenated and mineralized. The other role that the pancreas has is to gather approximately two quarts of water from within the body, mix it with bicarbonate that it manufactures, along with pancreatic enzymes and secrete it into the small intestine to neutralize the acids pouring from the stomach to begin the next phase in the digestive process. If there is a water shortage within the body, the pancreatic juice may not be in sufficient amounts to neutralize all the acids that enter the intestines to continue the process of food digestion. At this point, something has to happen. The pancreas reduces insulin secretion which slows the entry of water and nutrients into the cells of the body that depend on insulin to feed. This enables more water to be available to the pancreas to produce its pancreatic juice. When the insulin-sensitive gates in the outer membrane cannot deliver water and nutrients to the cells, the gates wither and can die. This is the start of the degenerative processes associated with diabetes.. As the body become more dehydrated, it also becomes more acidic and needs to use more of the bicarbonate and minerals from your bones, organs and teeth to buffer the pH of the blood and the brain to keep you alive. In diabetes, insulin stops pushing water into the cells because there isn’t enough to service all bodily functions. This happens in two ways. The first is where the pancreas just stops producing insulin. It has the ability but it stops because of a water shortage. This causes Type II Diabetes which is reversible. Another way that the body deals with the water crisis is to damage the insulin producing cells within the pancreas. The nuclei of the Islets of Langerhans, the insulin producing cells are damaged beyond repair. This is Type I Diabetes. It is a type of “auto-immune” disease where the body attacks troublesome parts of itself rather than struggle with the lack of water. Type II Diabetes can respond to a gradual increase in alkaline water consumption to at least two quarts daily along with some added ionic mineral salts. The body need both water and salt (not table salt) to function well. Our ancestors drank river and stream water. It bubbled over the rocks gathering minerals and oxygen and the sun shone on it, filling it full of negative ions. Today, in remote areas of the world, long-lived pockets of society still drink this type of water today. They are healthy and strong well beyond most of the population. We can’t move to these remote places but we can drink similar healthy water. Science has created a machine that sits on your kitchen counter and makes that fresh mountain stream available to you anytime and you don’t have to hike to get it. Is Your Stomach Pain Due to Bone Building In Your Gut?

In the November 26, 2008 issue of Cell, The Columbia University Medical Center research group, led by Gerard Karsenty, M.D., Ph.D., chair of the Department of Genetics and Development at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, has discovered a unique link between bone growth and serotonin levels. Do You Have Digestive Problems?

There are always unmentionables that are never supposed to be included in polite conversation. There are things you just don’t talk about. When we do, we hear, “Too much information!” It seems it’s only three year olds that are fascinated with bowel movements. But, the more you know about what makes your bowels work, the better chances you have to be healthy. One of the important things you need to know is how often. Experts say that two to three times a day is optimal and once is absolutely imperative. Keeping body waste moving regularly avoids toxic build-ups and re-absorption of what the body is trying to get rid of. If it was good for your body, things would have been designed differently. Another important thing is comfort. When what needs to come out is soft, moist and easily eliminated, it is much more comfortable. Improve Your Digestion With Fibre

The part of you that digests and processed your food is 26 feet long. It is an intricate tube that provides you with the fuel to get about your day with efficiency and vitality. Of course, your energy levels and your feelings of well-being are dependant a great deal on what you put into your mouth and how quickly it transits your body. That transit time is made efficient by the amount of fiber you eat. If you want to see how long it takes for your digestive system to process and evacuate eat some beets. Ideally foods should enter your mouth and exit the other end within 18 to 24 hours. Foods that sit in your system longer than that tend to lose more water and get more solid in your system, resulting in what is called constipation. You body needs help to move food stuffs efficiently through your digestive tract. Some of these hardened feces can stick to the sides of the intestinal walls creating all kinds of problems. Fiber is like a scouring brush that helps remove matter that is stuck on the walls of the intestines and pushes it to the other end. Fiber is what we eat that remains close to its original state by the time it reaches the colon. Unlike cows and animals that have an enzyme for breaking down fiber, we humans do not, so the fiber remains undigested and contributes to colon health. Vegetables and grains contain lots of fiber. There are two types of fiber, soluble and insoluble, but both allow the digesting matter to hold more water so that the feces stay soft and move more comfortably through the digestive tract. Insoluble fiber is like the scouring brush, pushing everything towards the exit point. Soluble fiber, on the other hand absorbs toxins and extra cholesterol taking it all though the tract to be eliminated. Obviously, soft bowel movements are more comfortable to pass and cause less strain on the body. Constipation can cause things like bad breath, hemorrhoids, varicose veins, body odor, depression, fatigue, indigestion, gas, bloating, heart burn, and even insomnia. Aside from lack of fiber, constipation can be caused by dehydration of the large intestine. To add more fiber to the diet is a wise move, as is drinking more water.
